Billy Graham, born William Franklin Graham Jr. on November 7, 1918, in Charlotte, North Carolina, was an influential American evangelist and ordained Southern Baptist minister. His ministry spanned over six decades, gaining international recognition through large-scale evangelistic events and extensive media outreach. Graham conducted worldwide “crusades,” preaching to millions in stadiums and auditoriums. His radio program, Hour of Decision, aired from 1950 to 1954, and his televised sermons continued to reach audiences well into the 21st century. Graham’s straightforward approach to evangelism, rooted in biblical teachings and modern communication methods, allowed him to connect with diverse audiences globally.

Throughout his ministry, Billy Graham was known for his firm stance on racial integration and social justice. As early as 1953, he insisted on integrated seating at his events, rejecting segregationist norms of the time. In 1957, he invited Martin Luther King Jr. to preach with him at a revival in New York City, reflecting his commitment to unity and equality. Graham also served as a spiritual advisor to U.S. presidents, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon. Billy Graham’s global impact reached an estimated 210 million people in over 185 countries and territories. His message offered guidance on faith and contemporary life, resonating with individuals across different backgrounds. Despite criticism, Graham remained dedicated to his mission, emphasizing the importance of personal faith and moral integrity. He married Ruth Bell in 1943, and together they raised five children. Graham passed away on February 21, 2018, in Montreat, North Carolina, at the age of 99.
