The unique genius that I feel we all carry is so special and sometimes hard to discern. But the inner change allows us to find that; then, the outer change requires us to be that.

The Unique Genius
Topic: Self-Cultivation & Health
There are a lot of cultural norms and systems in the world. Even something like power—it’s easy to express power in a way that is the “normal” way; for example, power over something. I’ve come to learn it’s not about being a powerful person. It’s about standing in our power, that is the authenticity of who we are. If someone is perhaps soft or if they’re vulnerable or they’re creative, standing in their power is actually standing in the fullness of the vulnerable expression of who they are and offering that genius—that gift—into the world. So it requires inner change to really become familiar with our unique genius and expression. And outer change requires more people doing that. The unique genius that I feel we all carry is so special and sometimes hard to discern. But the inner change allows us to find that; then, the outer change requires us to be that.

About This Stacey Lawson Quotation [Commentary]
Stacey Lawson invites us to rediscover what she calls the “unique genius that I feel we all carry,” a quality that is “so special and sometimes hard to discern.” This genius is not a performance or role, but an inner presence that emerges when we let go of external norms and turn inward. She contrasts typical models of power—“power over something”—with the deeper experience of “standing in our power,” which she defines as “the authenticity of who we are.” Whether one is “soft,” “vulnerable,” or “creative,” the call is to inhabit these qualities without apology. In doing so, we offer our real gift to the world.
Lawson speaks clearly about the sequence of change. “It requires inner change to really become familiar with our unique genius and expression.” This self-knowing is not always immediate. It comes as we recognize and stay present to our own inner life. But inner clarity alone is not enough. “Outer change requires more people doing that”—bringing what is discovered on the inside into the fabric of our lives. “The inner change allows us to find that; then, the outer change requires us to be that.” The movement from awareness to embodiment is where transformation takes root.
This movement expresses a core aspect of Being In Self. To “stand in the fullness of the vulnerable expression of who we are” is not a private act. It is an offering—one that challenges norms and invites change. Stacey Lawson’s words carry a reminder that we are called not only to uncover our genius but to live it. Each time we align with and express our true nature, we help create a world in which more people can do the same.
