The unique genius that I feel we all carry is so special and sometimes hard to discern. But the inner change allows us to find that; then, the outer change requires us to be that.

The Unique Genius
Topic: Spiritual Growth & Practice
There are a lot of cultural norms and systems in the world. Even something like power—it’s easy to express power in a way that is the “normal” way; for example, power over something. I’ve come to learn it’s not about being a powerful person. It’s about standing in our power, that is the authenticity of who we are. If someone is perhaps soft or if they’re vulnerable or they’re creative, standing in their power is actually standing in the fullness of the vulnerable expression of who they are and offering that genius—that gift—into the world. So it requires inner change to really become familiar with our unique genius and expression. And outer change requires more people doing that. The unique genius that I feel we all carry is so special and sometimes hard to discern. But the inner change allows us to find that; then, the outer change requires us to be that.

About This Stacey Lawson Quotation [Commentary]
Stacey Lawson reflects on the journey of discovering and embracing one’s “unique genius,” which requires both inward transformation and outward expression. She believes each person carries a unique essence that, though sometimes subtle, is essential to who they are. Lawson suggests that finding this essence calls for an inner shift—a process of self-discovery that moves beyond surface attributes and cultural expectations. This inner change opens a pathway for individuals to recognize their true gifts and cultivate an authentic sense of self.
For Lawson, outer change means redefining power not as control but as self-embodiment. Cultural norms often encourage exerting influence outwardly, but she advocates for “standing in our power”—expressing one’s genuine qualities, even those that may be vulnerable or gentle. In her view, this self-embodiment is a valuable offering to the world, a form of service that brings forth one’s unique genius to inspire and uplift others.
Lawson’s words resonate with the theme of spiritual growth, where the journey is as much about self-discovery as it is about expression. The “inner change” she describes aligns with cultivating inner strength, enabling individuals to connect with their true essence. This inner transformation, when expressed outwardly, contributes to personal and collective growth, as each person courageously brings their gifts to create a more authentic, compassionate world.
