“Art, when inspired with love, leads to higher realms. Love art, and that art will open for you the inner life.”

Meher Baba

Meher Baba (25 February 1894 – 31 January 1969) was a spiritual teacher who lived in India. Baba's real birth name was Merwan Irani and his parents' names were Sheriar and Shireen Irani. His family lived in India, but they were of Persian descent. Today Persia is called Iran. They were not Hindus or Muslims like most Indians at that time, but were of the Zoroastrian religion. He also said he had not come to start a new religion—that it was better to truly follow one's own religion. Because of this, he has followers who are Zoroastrians, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Sufis, Buddhists, and Sikhs. There are also atheists and agnostics who do not necessarily believe in God, but who are attracted purely to his simple philosophy of leading an honest and loving life.

Sufism Reoriented

The name “Sufism Reoriented” means “sufism renewed” – the timeless path of love for God adapted and revitalized for today’s world. Meher Baba designed Sufism Reoriented as a school of inner development in the midst of the everyday world. Members are invited to join a shared life that supports, protects, and affirms modes of internal learning and growth toward God and their outward expression in the world. Students strive to move beyond the limitations and narrow boundaries of the personal ego, or lower nature, to experience the freedom and delight of an expanded life based on broad principles of harmony, beauty, and joy – all of which are attributes of love.

Additional Quotes from Meher Baba
