Laughter, even at my own quirky, fearful, darling self—laughter, I’ve written in a number of places, is carbonated holiness. So if I’m breathing and I’ve gotten my sense of humor back, I’m in something spiritual.

Well, a loving God is the God of surprises. I’ve sometimes said God’s sense of humor is quite something, you know.

A sense of humor is high on my list of virtues, in interplay with humility and compassion and a capacity to change when that is the right thing to do.
